Heel pain is very common and can occur at any age. There are multiple causes for heel pain including: plantar fasciitis, bursitis, Achilles tendonitis, stress fracture, bone tumor, Sever’s disease, arthritis, nerve pain. Most are caused by stress and overuse.
By far the most common cause for heel pain is plantar fasciitis. This is an inflammation of a band of tissue from the heel to the toes and can occur anywhere along the heel and arch. This pain acts like tendonitis with pain rising from rest and with activity.
Treatments are usually conservative with arch supports, rest, stretching, and NSAIDs. Additional conservative treatments are available if needed. Surgery is sometimes required to resolve pain.
Its important to have proper diagnosis for most effective treatment options. Call Dr. Nowlin for additional information.
