Plantar warts are a common skin growth caused by a virus. Warts can occur anywhere on the foot. They can occur as a single lesion or as a cluster of lesions.
Warts appear as thickened skin like a corn or callus. They can be painful with a “soap bubble” and “salt and pepper” appearance. Pinpoint bleeding may occur.
There are many treatments for warts including topical medication, laser, freezing, acid, and surgery. Warts may return that require further treatment. On rare occasion, a biopsy may be required to rule out a more serious skin lesion. The resolution of warts can be frustrating for patient and doctor. Be wary of “folk remedies” and unproven treatments. See Dr. Nowlin for evaluation and treatment options.
