GANGLION CYST

Ganglion Cyst Treatment in Warrensburg, MO

There are many soft tissue masses that may occur in the foot and ankle including: ganglion cyst, plantar fibroma, Morton’s neuroma (nerve swelling), bursitis, lipoma, inclusion cyst, vascular tumors, and numerous skin lesions.

Ganglion cyst is the most common soft tissue mass in the foot. It is a fluid filled sac just below the skin surface that originates from a tendon sheath or joint capsule. The cause is unknown, but it is believed to originate from a tear in the tendon sheath or joint capsule from repetitive microtrauma. Pain, numbness, and burning symptoms can occur from pressure against shoes or pressure to local nerves and tendons.

Nonsurgical treatments can include: observation (no treatment), shoe modifications, or fluid removal (aspiration). Surgery may be needed to resolve painful symptoms. Dr. Nowlin can discuss all your options.
