NEUROMA

Neuroma Treatment in Warrensburg, MO

A neuroma is a thickening of nerve tissue that may occur in various body locations. The most common neuroma in the foot is a Morton’s neuroma which occurs between third and fourth toes. The nerve swelling occurs between third and fourth metatarsal (ball of foot) with pain and symptoms extending to local toes.

Morton’s neuroma is caused by nerve compression from narrow shoes and or repetitive stress from activity such as running or sport play. Certain foot types are more prone to nerve irritation. Direct nerve trauma may also lead to neuroma.

Symptoms of Morton’s neuroma include pain, tingling, burning, numbness, full or swollen feeling to ball of foot. Symptoms can progressively worsen as nerve becomes more enlarged from repetitive irritation.

Nonsurgical treatments include: padding, ice, orthotic arch supports, shoes, medications, and injection treatments. If conservative treatments fail, surgery may be needed to resolve painful symptoms. See Dr. Nowlin for treatment options to avoid surgery.
