HAMMER TOES

Hammer Toe Treatment Options in Warrensburg, MO

A hammertoe is a contracted or bending toe. In the beginning, hammertoes may be flexible, but over time, the hammertoe can become a rigid deformity. The abnormal bending can lead to pressure points to the toe and ball of foot. Pressure from shoes and ambulation can lead to corns, ulcers, infections, and amputations.

Hammer Toe Treatments

Hammertoes can be caused from heredity biomechanical changes, trauma, or arthritis. Biomechanical changes with heredity are most common and cause a muscle imbalance pulling toes into contracted deformity. Hammertoes are progressive and may get worse over time.

Conservative and Surgical Treatment Approaches

Conservative treatment includes deeper shoes, padding, orthotics, and NSAIDs. When hammertoe become more rigid and painful, surgery is often needed to correct deformity. See Dr. Nowlin to discuss all your conservative and surgical options.
